Broncos Draft: Arizona State RB Kalen Ballage an option?
By Tylor Walden
With the possibility of two running backs leaving Denver in the offseason, could a mid-to-late round pick in Kalen Ballage be an option?
In what could be a pass happy league today, the Denver Broncos might look to utilize their running backs in 2018. It was proven to be on par last year. We saw C.J. Anderson rush for 1,000 yards despite a rough season.
With the possibility of C.J. Anderson and Jamaal Charles leaving the team, it will be important for the Broncos to find a running back that could help the team out. Anderson has an opt-out in his contract and Miami could look to pick him up. Charles has not been happy with his role on the team. It’s possible he walks in free agency without listening to any offers from Denver.
With only Devontae Booker and De’Angelo Henderson on the roster, the team will need at least one option at running back. One name from the Senior Bowl that could be of interest is Kalen Ballage from Arizona State.
You might remember his name from his eight touchdown performance against Texas Tech back in 2016. That performance tied the NCAA record for most touchdowns in a game by one player. He recorded 1,984 rushing yards during his four year career at Arizona State. That includes 27 touchdowns.
During the Senior Bowl, he showed flashes of his solid running ability. He certainly helped Baker Mayfield on his second series with some solid runs. However, the a few things might turn him away from some teams.

His pass catching abilities as well as his running style might be the reason why he was only a mid-to-late round prospect. Something that can be corrected. But the one thing I like about Kalen Ballage is when he gets past the line and into an open field, watch out! He is really quick on his feet.
If Denver does not have their running back situation solved by Day Three of the Draft, Kalen Ballage could be a solid option.
