The Denver Broncos are likely looking for a quarterback during the offseason. Did Baker Mayfield do enough to sway the Broncos? I evaluate his performance.

Baker Mayfield might be the most polarizing player in this year’s draft class. We have seen him do some great things on the football field and not some good things on and off.

However, there is no denying his skills as a quarterback. Everything about his game is just phenomenal. He mostly operates under the shotgun formation. But we did get to see some of his snaps during the practice under center. It would be interesting if he can do well both in the shotgun and under center.

The Reese’s Senior Bowl was played on Saturday. There was a lot of conflicting reports on the playing status of Baker Mayfield throughout the week. His mother has been sick and he wanted to be there for her. By the way, what a great guy.

However, he did decide to play in the game. Time to evaluate and see how he did during the Senior Bowl.

He ended up only playing only two series in the game. His first series did not look good. The North squad went three and out during the drive and he was sacked on third down. He completed one out of two passes.

In his second and final series in the Senior Bowl, he looked solid. However, he was able to move the ball with the help of Arizona State running back Kalen Ballage. The Sundevil running back had two solid runs that helped Baker Mayfield get the offense into field goal range.

On his final pass of the day, Baker Mayfield got to his intended receiver a bit late while stepping into the pocket. It is good that he can step in, but perhaps waiting until he has a good lane to find the receivers hands will help.

He led the team to a field goal and then left the game. He reportedly left at halftime to be with his mother. Overall, I did not get to see much to make a full evaluation. So, we will wait to see how he does at the Combine and Oklahoma’s Pro Day.
