While the last two seasons have not been kind to the Denver Broncos, it is on this day in history that the franchise won their first title.

The Denver Broncos recently won the franchise’s third Super Bowl almost two years ago when the team came into Santa Clara, California and took care of business against the Carolina Panthers with a stellar defense.

But it was on this day 20 years ago that Denver Broncos fans will never forget. On January 25th, 1998, the Denver Broncos entered Qualcomm Stadium as big underdogs against the Green Bay Packers. The NFC team with such a rich history was looking to repeat as Champions of the NFL.

John Elway entered the game wondering if he would ever win his first title. After missing out on the last three attempts, this was possibly his final chance to get a world title under his Hall of Fame resume.

Thanks to the support of Terrell Davis’ 157 yards rushing and three touchdowns, the Denver Broncos were able to hold off a late Green Bay drive and secure their first championship title by a score of 31-24.

I remember this game all too well. It was the very first NFL game I saw as a young fan. I was eight years old and my mother got me into football with this game. So, I missed the heartbreaks because of not being born and being too young. After watching this game, I wanted to make sure that I always watched Broncos football every Sunday afternoon.

It is still surreal that it has been 20 years ago that Super Bowl 32 has been played. Hopefully it won’t be long until the Denver Broncos can add a fourth Lombardi Trophy to their trophy case.

Celebrate this day Broncos Country. It marked the beginning of the Denver Broncos place on the NFL map.
