First Round: Saquon Barkley, RB, Penn State

If the Denver Broncos sign a veteran like Tyrod Taylor in free agency, I don’t expect that to fully prevent them from taking a quarterback with the fifth overall pick.

With that being said, I’m going to explore a scenario that involves Denver passing on whatever quarterbacks might be available at five overall, sticking with Tyrod, Paxton Lynch, and Chad Kelly for the moment, and drafting perhaps the best all-around talent in this year’s class.

The Broncos, of course, have needs on the offensive line as well, but there are no tackles or guards in this year’s draft that have the ability to make as significant of an impact — in my opinion — as the Heisman finalist out of Penn State.

Barkley, a dynamic talent with the football in his hands, is as quick as he is fast, and able to accelerate unlike almost any other player I’ve ever scouted. He is a dynamic all-around player with vision, power when he needs to use it, and breakaway speed.

Adding Barkley and Taylor to the offense could change around the Broncos’ fortunes quickly.
