Round One, Fifth Overall

Scouting Report. Offensive Tackle. 5. player. ConnorWilliams. 45. Pick Analysis. Texas

By the time it was Denver’s turn to draft, Baker Mayfield, Josh Rosen, and Saquan Barkley were all taken. When it was time to draft, it was between Sam Darnold and Josh Allen at quarterback. Most would predict the Broncos would pick up a quarterback. But in perhaps the biggest shock, even I was surprised that I did this, I decided to go offensive line.

The Broncos drafted Garett Bolles in the first round last year. So, for the second year in a row, Denver uses their first pick to beef up the offensive line.

Right Tackle was a disaster for the Broncos last season. Menelik Watson did not end up working out. He played very badly up until his season ending injury. Donald Stephenson did not help at all.

So, the Broncos decide to draft Connor Williams fifth overall to “hopefully” get the answer at right tackle.

This would be interesting to see where they could plug in Connor Williams. His natural position is left tackle, but can play right tackle. I can see a situation where Williams goes to the right and Bolles stays at left. Or they flip and have Williams go left and Bolles go right.

Either way, the Denver Broncos could have a solid option defending the quarterback here. Now, some of you might be upset that I did not pick up a quarterback… or did I?
