Fans of a few NFL teams collectively panicked over Baker Mayfield’s comment on Kenny Stills’ Instagram live that said #GetMeToMiami…

On Thursday evening, fans of a number of NFL teams — including the Denver Broncos — had a collective panic as Heisman winning quarterback Baker Mayfield popped up in the comments section of Miami Dolphins wide receiver Kenny Stills’ Instagram Live feed.

Stills, as you may know, is a fellow former Sooner and the Dolphins are possibly in the market for a quarterback this offseason.

Here’s Mayfield’s comment:

When that comment hit the Twitter-sphere, many (including myself) were at worst feeling a little left out.

Does Mayfield not want to play for my team?

As it turns out, Mayfield was just having some fun with a fellow former Sooner, and had to address the comment after it went viral on Twitter:

Well, that’s good to know.

I suppose even if Mayfield did really want to play for the Dolphins, if the Broncos or any other team were to draft him before they had the chance, it would just be a ‘well, too bad’ sort of situation.

Mayfield is going to be a good NFL player in my opinion, and perhaps after spending this week with the Broncos’ coaching staff, he’ll be sending out a comment on Twitter that says, “#GetMeToDenver” because, after all, that’s what we want to hear.

Here’s a scenario for you, though:

If the Broncos were to sign Kirk Cousins in free agency, and had no need for Mayfield, what if they struck up a trade with the Dolphins and old pal Adam Gase, getting Miami’s first round pick in 2018 and 2019 among other assets?

The Dolphins pick 11th overall and would have to jump a few teams likely to get high enough in the draft order to pick Mayfield.

If that’s the case, the Broncos could come away with a nice trade haul and also help Mayfield in his pursuit of the Dolphins.
