Make Denver Broncos linebackers great again, should be a priority no matter what in the NFL Draft by adding one player in this scenario.

If the Denver Broncos decide to sign Kirk Cousins or another free agent quarterback, then this frees up many avenues in the 2018 NFL Draft. One option to rekindle their Super Bowl 50 linebacker corps is by drafting Georgia Bulldog linebacker Roquan Smith.

Smith is the best pure sideline to sideline linebacker in this NFL Draft.

Another aspect I love from Smith’s tape is play recognition and instincts. He moves pre-snap better than anyone in his position.

The next closest competitor is Josey Jewell, an All-American linebacker that does all the facets very well. However, Smith is more athletic and a potential game breaker at linebacker.

Smith certainly is a reach at the number five pick, but the Broncos should move quickly if the they find themselves with a pick in the teens.

This means a possible move down via a trade and those typically happen if a player is a main target. I’m not sure if the Denver Broncos would consider such scenario. However, an opportunity to bring back a unit similar to Danny Trevathan and Brandon Marshall in Super Bowl 50 should be considered.

During that Super Bowl season, linebackers worked hand in hand with one another. Both Marshall and Trevathan showed incredible versatility to play on the outside or inside linebacker spot. Each added the speed to close on the run and in coverage. If the Broncos drafted Smith, then there is a semblance of that same unit.

The Broncos face bigger decisions beyond linebacker and specifically more on the offensive side of the ball. However, defense wins championships.

The best possible scenario for the Broncos to bring back the elite linebacker duo is consider linebacker high in the first day and early in round two.

Smith is a LaVonte David/Patrick Willis that changes the game in different facets. That said, look for the Broncos to upgrade at linebacker one way or another. Todd Davis and Corey Nelson are free agents.

Enough of me telling you how good he is…Take a look at the highlights above and see for yourself.
