Five reasons Tyrod Taylor makes sense for the Denver Broncos
3. Cheaper than Cousins
Rumor has it, Kirk Cousins is expected to command potentially the biggest contract in NFL history.
Of course, the next quarterback to sign a big contract will top it, and in two years we will be talking about the ‘value’ of a guy like Cousins, but there’s no doubt that the contract that Tyrod Taylor gets this offseason will be cheaper than the one Cousins gets.
We could potentially be talking about a half-price deal, here.
If Cousins is set to make $28-30 million annually, I don’t think it’s out of the realm of possibility to think Tyrod will only get about $16-18 million.
That seems like a ton of money, but in this quarterback market, it’s about the going rate for a low level starter/high level backup.
The Broncos would not have to commit anywhere near as much guaranteed money to Taylor, nor would they have to commit as many years.
