According to Phil Savage, the Denver Broncos specifically asked that Baker Mayfield be on their roster at the 2018 Senior Bowl…

If there was any question about it before, there’s not anymore.

The Denver Broncos wanted the chance to evaluate Heisman Trophy winner Baker Mayfield at the 2018 Senior Bowl up-close-and-personal, so they requested he be on their roster.

This news comes directly from Phil Savage himself:

The Broncos are coaching the ‘North’ team at the 2018 Senior Bowl, but as we’ve mentioned before, geography doesn’t always mean everything when it comes to this game.

The Broncos are getting a golden opportunity coming off of a horrible season, coaching one of the rosters at the most talented Senior Bowl I’ve seen in a long, long time.

Perhaps the most talented ever.

I don’t know if this means that we won’t get to see Josh Allen on Denver’s roster as well at the Senior Bowl, but it certainly makes you wonder.

The Houston Texans, the other coaching staff in this game, already have their quarterback of the future in DeShaun Watson.

Watson proved in year one with the Texans that he is capable of making a significant impact on their franchise, and prior to his torn ACL, he looked like a budding MVP candidate.

The Texans, in short, don’t need a quarterback early in next year’s draft. That’s likely why any request from the Broncos to coach Mayfield resulted in a pretty quick ‘yes’ from the Senior Bowl.

This is good news for all those who really want Mayfield in Denver next year and beyond. The Broncos obviously have some significant interest in him, and after missing out on his bowl game against Georgia because of all the craziness surrounding the coaching staff on that particular day, they’re going to get an even better look at him in Mobile.
