4. Elway has also failed with draft picks

Signing Manning in free agency was a huge hit, but Elway’s draft picks at quarterback have been horrid.

Starting with Brock Osweiler in 2012, and going on to the likes of Zac Dysert and Paxton Lynch among others, Elway’s selection of quarterbacks in the draft has been underwhelming at best.

The Broncos have failed to find the right option in the draft, and that’s the primary reason we are where we are right now.

Osweiler wasn’t the answer. Paxton probably isn’t the answer.

It’s perhaps not justified, but this could cause Elway to fear the ‘unknown’ of another rookie draft pick at the position. He said himself that starting a rookie quarterback is ‘not ideal’ and for this team specifically, he may still find that to be true.

Because of past failures drafting quarterbacks, I could see Elway pushing hard to sign someone like Cousins so he doesn’t have to risk it all in the draft again.
