3. John Elway has succeeded with a veteran once
John Elway certainly has some precedence of a big money contract given to a quarterback working out in the recent past.
Now, this is Peyton Manning we’re talking about, but signing Manning wasn’t as much of a slam dunk initially as it turned out to be.
Manning’s neck procedures and health were a significant concern and the main reason he was even available in the first place. Had the Colts known he would more than return to form, they might have just forsaken the great Andrew Luck and kept Manning the rest of his career.
Elway signing Manning paved the way for the Broncos to be a consistent threat to win it all annually. He may view signing Cousins as giving this team the same opportunity to win if he can keep the nucleus he’s built in-tact for the foreseeable future, and connect with the majority of his high picks in 2018.
