Virgil Green, TE (UFA)

Virgil Green has carved out a really nice role with the Broncos over the past seven years with the team, overcoming the seventh round draft pick stigma and lasting a really long time in the league despite concerns about injuries in the pre-draft process.

Green has not blossomed into the number one tight end the Broncos thought he could be when they re-signed him three years ago and convinced him to stay in Denver rather than go to Chicago to be with John Fox and Adam Gase.

Green’s best season statistically as a receiver came in 2016 when he caught 22 passes, and he has one touchdown in each of the past four years.

Not all of that is on Green, of course. He’s been a reliable blocker and has made some big plays in the passing game, but Denver may need to start looking into alternatives at the position, starting in-house.

Green’s seniority has perhaps hindered the Broncos from making a move at the tight end spot that could really enhance the offense, and I think this offseason is the one where they finally part ways.

Green will have suitors on the open market, no doubt.
