Todd Davis, LB (UFA)

After the Broncos paid Brandon Marshall a ton of money to be their top dog at linebacker, the writing was sort of on the wall for Davis with his impending unrestricted free agency.

The Broncos simply can’t afford to pay both guys premium money at the same position when they could just as easily find someone in the draft at a fraction of the price and — quite honestly — probably just as much production.

That’s not to take away from Davis’ contributions since joining the Broncos, which includes a 97-tackle season in 2016 and an 82-tackle season this past year. He will be a highly sought after player on the open market, and I think he’s developed into a really strong, all-around linebacker that is going to continue to get better.

Davis has made some big plays in run defense for the Broncos, and while he’s been inconsistent in coverage, I would say the Broncos maximized their investment in him when they poached him off of the Saints’ practice squad in 2014.

My best guess is, Davis signs elsewhere and the Broncos don’t even make him an offer.
