Trey Burton, Eagles

Perhaps my favorite free agent option at the tight end position is Trey Burton of the Eagles.

Broncos fans saw first hand the type of damage he’s capable of in the passing game when the Eagles trounced Denver during their eight-game losing streak.

Burton only saw 30 targets in the passing game, but caught 23 passes and five went for touchdowns.

That’s an efficient player when given an opportunity to make a play.

The Eagles have a number of other players to keep under contract, and they’ve already re-signed a number of others. I think Burton is going to be able to have his pick of a new team, and the idea of pairing him with a guy like Kirk Cousins is very attractive to me.

Burton can be a dynamic threat in the passing game, which the Broncos desperately need, but given he’s only 26 and has shown the type of upside he has as a receiver, could he price himself out of the Broncos’ range?

That’s the biggest question as of now, but he’s certainly at or near the top of the list of candidates this team should be looking to sign at tight end this offseason.
