A new set of coaching staff hires is a great recipe for Denver Broncos Head Coach Vance Joseph to succeed in his second year.

Now a second year head coach for the Denver Broncos, Vance Joseph is ready to give his best opportunity to be more assertive with new coaches. In order to be more forceful there has to be a previous relationship. The great news for Joseph are the hires to replace Mike McCoy, Jeff Davidson and Eric Studesville.

Joseph’s smart thinking to hire or promote new and current coaches he has experience with is a step in the right direction.

Former Broncos offensive coordinator, Mike McCoy, mightily living in the past and recreating the wheel. Trevor Siemian is not the quarterback to throw 40 times in a game. The plan in the beginning was simple. Run the football and establish an identity to bull people over.

McCoy is no longer with the team, but Joseph failed to be more direct with McCoy the minute plans changed during the New York Giants game. Joseph did not envision that offense for the Broncos in 2017. A Bill Musgrave-led offense was. There was no prior history with Joseph and McCoy. McCoy had the longer head coaching tenure, but Joseph was the current head coach. This is his team.

Another coach let go is Jeff Davidson. The Denver Broncos offensive line faced demons the entire season. Last year Broncos encountered same woes at right tackle and guard. Ronald Leary solidified one spot, but there would be no semblance of an offensive line until late in the season.

Growth is a great way better during the stretch of a regular schedule. However, changes needed to be made once the hard patches came right away. Vance Joseph didn’t have the final say. However, it appears a new hire of Sean Kugler is the right coach to lead the unit. Kugler is a fiery coach like Bill Kollar. This was the correct hire for an offensive line in need of a kick in the pants.

Eric Studesville’s respect is league wide, but the past two seasons left a lot to be desired. This is not to ignore his previous past with the Broncos. The players loved his style. However, they don’t have final say. Vance Joseph does now.

An argument can be made Joseph should have activated DeAngelo Henderson and upped the workload of Jamaal Charles. Yet a position coach should recognize that and tell Joseph. Studesville’s reputation earned him a head coaching interview. He will land on his feet somewhere.

Joseph needed a coach he can bounce ideas off of. New running backs coach Curtis Modkins gives a fresh new look and idea. Quarterback’s coach Mike Sullivan is another man to get the most out of his quarterbacks.

The best relationship starts with the true offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave. Musgrave outlined a plan of running the ball first, while bouncing around an idea of playing to a player’s skill set. The single greatest thing Joseph did was showing assertiveness to make Musgrave the true offensive coordinator.

Time will tell for Joseph and the staff, but Joseph is taking the steps in the right direction to be more vocal about making the right call.
