The Denver Broncos will reportedly interview former New York Giants offensive coordinator Mike Sullivan for their quarterbacks coach position…

The Denver Broncos are looking at ways to fill out their coaching staff after making some changes, and are reportedly considering New York Giants offensive coordinator Mike Sullivan for their vacant quarterback coach position.

Sullivan was named offensive coordinator in 2016 for the Giants, and besides a two-year stint as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator (2012-13) he’s been an assistant with the Giants since 2004, when Eli Manning was drafted.

The initial report on Sullivan being considered by Denver came from Mike Garafolo:

The Giants’ offense didn’t experience wild success in 2017 or anything, but injuries were a major factor in that as well.

Odell Beckham Jr. obviously played only four games, and free agent acquisition Brandon Marshall only played five games. The Giants, by season’s end, had a different ‘who’s who?’ of Broncos receivers playing for them in Tavarres King, Kalif Raymond, and Hunter Sharp.

As a matter of fact, King tied for second on the team (with Beckham) with three receiving touchdowns.

Needless to say, things were a mess with the Giants this year, but Sullivan has proven himself a capable assistant through the years, even though he’s had his ups and downs.

The 2016 season for the Giants may be a much better measuring tool, where they won 11 games and Eli Manning threw for 26 touchdowns compared to 16 interceptions, and New York won with a great defense and an opportunistic offense.

Sullivan won’t be coming in to run an offense, though. He will be coming in to work with quarterbacks, and right now, we have no idea who that group will include.

Brock Osweiler’s contract is up, and there are starting vacancies around the league he may pursue outside of Denver. Trevor Siemian is having another surgery on his left shoulder, and is not expected to be on the roster by the start of next season.

Paxton Lynch could be around, as could Chad Kelly, but the Broncos are expected to go after a free agent quarterback and possibly also draft someone high.

Sullivan would be taking a job not knowing necessarily who he will be working with, but I suppose that’s part of any job in the NFL — the great unknown.
