Denver Broncos Shake Up Coaching Staff on Black Monday
By Tylor Walden
Black Monday has arrived in the NFL. While the Denver Broncos stuck with Vance Joseph at head coach, they made some changes at the coordinator spots.
Vance Joseph’s job with the Denver Broncos ended up becoming safe. However, the team was not going into the offseason without making some changes in the coaching staff. Some moves were expected. Others were shocking.
Here is the list of Denver Broncos coaches who were handed the pink slip on Monday.
Brock Olivo- Special Teams Coordinator
Jeff Davidson- Offensive Lines Coach
Eric Studesville- Running Backs Coach/Assistant Head Coach
Tyke Tolbert- Wide Receivers Coach
Fred Pagac- Outside Linebackers Coach
Johnnie Lynn- Assistant Defensive Backs Coach
I was not surprised at all with Brock Olivo and Jeff Davidson being handed the pink slip. Special teams was atrocious all season. Isaiah McKenzie was a prime example of how bad the 2017 Broncos season was.
Jeff Davidson had to deal with so many issues on the offensive line with injuries and inconsistency. So, it was no surprise he was let go.
The biggest shocks of the day was when Eric Studesville, Tyke Tolbert, and Fred Pagac were handed their pink slips. Studesville was the Denver Broncos interim head coach for the Broncos after Josh McDaniels was shown the door. He, however, is in line to interview for the head coaching job for the New York Giants. I hope he is given a chance.
Next: Scouting Oklahoma Sooners QB Baker Mayfield
Tyke Tolbert was another shocker. With bad quarterback play, he cannot be blamed for the performance of the wide receivers. But football is a business and he will certainly be missed. Having Von Miller’s position coach gone was another shock.
There are six spots to be filled for the Denver Broncos coaching staff. It will be interesting to see which names are brought in for interviews. Let the offseason begin.
