3rd Round (pick 1/2): Mike Gesicki, TE, Penn State

At the top of the third round, I think the Broncos will target a playmaker to go with their two new cornerstone pieces on the offensive side of the football, and with Dallas Goedert and Mark Andrews likely to be long gone at this point in the draft, I love the idea of adding Penn State’s Mike Gesicki to the fray.

This would give the Broncos a dynamite quartet of former Big Ten tight ends in Jeff Heuerman (Ohio State), Austin Traylor (Wisconsin), and Jake Butt (Michigan).

Gesicki, unlike the three players I mentioned before, does not strike me as a traditional, in-line type of player at the tight end position. I would envision Gesicki as a mismatch that can line up out wide, in the slot, and provide a nightmarish mismatch type of playmaker for the Broncos to utilize with the other players they have currently at the position.

Gesicki has a huge catch radius at 6-foot-6, and is athletic after the catch. He’s also proven the past two seasons that he’s an absolute touchdown machine, racking up 14 touchdowns over his last 26 games.
