The Denver Broncos have filled the final spot on their practice squad, signing former BYU wide receiver Jordan Leslie who will wear no. 19…

Christmas came a couple of days later for young wide receiver prospect Jordan Leslie, who was signed to the Denver Broncos’ practice squad on Wednesday, per multiple reports.

Leslie, a former BYU football star, is good friends with NBA star Jimmy Butler dating back to their high school years, where they played basketball together, and actually lived together for a time before Butler went to college.

Leslie broke the news on Twitter before official news came about:

Including the team he originally signed with as an undrafted free agent in 2015 — the Minnesota Vikings — and now the Broncos, Leslie has been part of six different NFL organizations, mostly as a member of the practice squad.

He was signed to the Cleveland Browns’ active roster on September 22nd after spending the entire 2017 offseason with them, but was waived/injured in October and was eventually released from injured reserve in Cleveland.

It was probably not the ideal move for the Browns, as Leslie showed some of his playmaking skills in actual game situations:

The former UTEP transfer who finished his college playing days at BYU was a big play threat throughout his college years, averaging over 15 yards per catch and finishing with 21 total touchdowns in his four years.

Leslie was among those who worked out for the Broncos earlier in December, and three weeks later, he finally got a call to come sign. The Broncos have had an open spot on their practice squad for quite some time now, and it’s been driving me absolutely crazy.

This is the third wide receiver the Broncos have added to the practice squad, joining River Cracraft (a slot type receiver) and Tim Patrick, a big, 6-foot-5 athletic specimen at the position.

To me, this move indicates the Broncos are preparing for one or both of Cody Latimer and Emmanuel Sanders to be put on injured reserve for the final game of the season, and this kid can come in and make some plays right away, or Patrick and Cracraft can come up.

One way or another, I love adding depth and athleticism to the wide receiver position, one of my favorites to scout. I’m going to dig into Leslie more for an offseason piece, as his story is incredibly intriguing, his athletic attributes fantastic, and his big play ability hard to ignore.
