2018 In-house free agents

Let’s take a look at the Broncos’ impending free agents, including unrestricted, restricted, exclusive rights, and any other types (via Over The Cap):

Virgil Green, tight end, UFA
Todd Davis, linebacker, UFA
Donald Stephenson, offensive tackle, UFA
Jamaal Charles, running back, UFA
Jared Crick, defensive end, UFA
Cody Latimer, wide receiver, UFA
Allen Barbre, offensive lineman, UFA
Billy Turner, offensive lineman, UFA
Brock Osweiler, quarterback, UFA
Billy Winn, defensive end, UFA
Corey Nelson, linebacker, UFA

Shaquil Barrett, outside linebacker, RFA
Matt Paradis, center, RFA
Bennie Fowler, wide receiver, RFA

Jordan Taylor, wide receiver, ERFA
Shelby Harris, defensive line, ERFA
Casey Kreiter, long snapper, ERFA
Zaire Anderson, linebacker, ERFA
Kyle Peko, defensive lineman, ERFA
Elijah Wilkinson, offensive tackle, ERFA
J.J. Dielman, offensive lineman, ERFA
Joseph Jones, linebacker, ERFA
Michael Hunter, cornerback, ERFA

In collecting this data, I found out some interesting bits of information on a couple of players, which I’ll share in future articles, but for now, this is the list that Over The Cap has based on their contract information.

The only ones I’m really unsure of, even considering how reliable these salary cap websites have become, are the exclusive rights players who were just signed to the active roster this year. Players like Peko, Wilkinson, Dielman, Jones, and Hunter.

Looking at the unrestricted free agents, players Denver has to either re-sign or allow to walk away with no compensation (at least until 2019…), I don’t know if there is anyone on that list I would bring back other than Cody Latimer.

We’ll make arguments for a number of players, specifically Todd Davis, Brock Osweiler, Jared Crick, Billy Winn, or others, but for now, this is what the list looks like.

Restricted free agents Denver has to deal with are far more interesting than the unrestricted group, and the Broncos have some big decisions to make there as well.

I would guess that Barrett and Paradis are given at least a second-round tender, meaning the Broncos would get back a second round pick in return if those players pursue other teams in free agency, and agree to a new contract.

Honestly, it wouldn’t surprise me to see one of those players involved in a sign-and-trade if Denver is given the opportunity to negotiate there. But both players could also be back at relatively cheap prices against the cap.

Restricted free agent tenders (1st round, 2nd round, original round, first right of refusal) are all fully guaranteed against the cap.
