3rd Round (pick 1/2): Mark Andrews, TE, Oklahoma

This pick may seem a bit unrealistic to some, as Andrews has been considered by many to be a possible first round candidate.

At this point in time, I have a hard time seeing him drop to round three, but with Rankin I reached a little bit on Miller’s board, and somehow on the FanSpeak mock, Andrews lasted into the 70s despite a top 50 ranking.

Andrews is the ideal chess piece at the tight end position in this year’s draft. Some feel like Dallas Goedert of South Dakota State is the best player at the position, but I really like Andrews’ athleticism and the fact that he’s been dominant against top level competition for years now.

Andrews’ ability to play in-line, or inability to play in-line, could be the cause of his drop down draft boards and even if the Broncos had to trade up from their third round spot a few places to get him, that would be okay with me.

Heck, if they go offensive line in round one, and take Andrews near the top of round two, that would be okay with me.

Just watch the guy play and you’ll know why.

He’s so hard for linebackers to cover because he’s too fast, and he’s tough for safeties or corners to cover because they are too small. He’s a mismatch you can put out in four-wide sets, and you can also use him in-line in two-tight end sets with Jake Butt, who is a gem coming back next year off of his ACL injury.

If you get a QB like Kirk Cousins in the fold, having a tight end duo of Jake Butt and Mark Andrews would be killer for opposing defenses.
