The Denver Broncos are placing quarterback Trevor Siemian on injured reserve with a shoulder injury, raising questions about his future…

The image of Trevor Siemian writhing in pain on the sideline in the Broncos’ victory against the Indianapolis Colts on Thursday Night Football could be the last we see of him in a Denver uniform.

Siemian, who has started the majority of the Broncos’ games over the past two seasons at quarterback, was placed on injured reserve with a shoulder injury, an injury that cost him time in 2016, and required offseason surgery in 2017.

Siemian’s shoulder problems have become a significant issue for him, and Thursday night’s injury was probably the most significant yet.

Putting Siemian on injured reserve creates a little less clarity as to what the Broncos will do at the quarterback position to end the 2017 season, which now has just two games left.

That sounds crazy, as it feels like we just started the season…

With Siemian officially on IR and Paxton Lynch getting healthy, the plan could be to turn to the former first round pick for the final two games of the year so he can audition his skills for the future of the Broncos.

This team cannot afford to go into the offseason without getting the best look as they possibly can at a player they invested so much in.

Brock Osweiler played one of the best games of his life against the Colts on Thursday night, but despite that, the Broncos know what they have in Osweiler. They know what he is at this point, and they know what he brings to the table moving forward.

They still don’t really know anything about Paxton Lynch, and as they head towards a crossroads at the position this offseason, the unknown with Lynch is one of the most unfortunate aspects of this team right now, because it could have been avoided.

Hopefully over the final two weeks of the season, the Broncos can get some answers in regards to their former first round pick. Vance Joseph addressed the media on Friday, and said that Lynch would be cleared to ‘go’ by Sunday.

That would give the Broncos two ‘healthy’ quarterbacks for the rest of the season, and as of right now, there are no plans to sign a third.

For Trevor Siemian, this seems to be the end of the road. Siemian has had more than enough time to prove that he is a player that can be built around as a quarterback, and the only reasonable conclusion at this point is that the Broncos must move on.

Siemian’s health issues combined with his inconsistent play on the field are the clearest indicators that he won’t be in the team’s future plans, though he does have one year left on his contract.

My best guess is that he is traded this offseason, or released outright, and jumps on as another team’s top backup option for 2018 and beyond.
