Denver Broncos four-round mock draft: Reviving the franchise
1. First Round, 4th overall: Connor Williams, OT, Texas
I’ll bet you didn’t see that coming, did you?
For the second consecutive year, at least in this scenario, the Broncos dip into the offensive tackle position pool and this time go after Connor Williams of Texas.
Why would the Broncos spend a top five pick on a tackle? Why would they invest a first rounder on that position two years in a row?
Well, the Broncos definitely have a keeper in Garett Bolles, but he could be just as good on the right side and Williams has the potential to be a big time left tackle in the NFL for years to come as well.
If the Broncos drafted Williams here, it would give them the bookend tackles needed to be dominant at that position for years to come.
The opportunity to draft in the top five doesn’t come around often, so you have to get a player at a position that it’s very hard to find elite prospects at. In my opinion, left tackle qualifies, as well as quarterback or along the defensive line.
The Broncos getting Williams could help to solidify a line that would then have at least three (maybe four, depending on what happens with Matt Paradis) locked up for the long-haul.
Williams has great feet, and despite struggling with some injuries this year, came back from almost two months off and was phenomenal to finish out the season. He has great feet, doesn’t let his quarterback get hit, and has a nasty disposition in the running game.
This kid is the real deal.
