The Denver Broncos have reportedly signed former TCU defensive end/outside linebacker Stansly Maponga to their practice squad…

The Denver Broncos have made a move on their practice squad, according to a report from Nicki Jhabvala, signing defensive end/outside linebacker Stansly Maponga:

After losing running back Jonathan Williams to the New Orleans Saints and promoting tight end Austin Traylor to the active roster, the Broncos had one spot to spare on the practice squad, and it goes to the former fifth round draft pick of the Atlanta Falcons.

Maponga was a star at TCU before being drafted by Atlanta, where he once ran with the first unit (2014).

He’s played in 26 career regular season games, 24 of which came with the Falcons. He has spent the majority of the past couple of years with the New York Giants, who tried him both as a defensive end and linebacker. He played two regular season games with the Giants and was signed to a reserve/futures contract this past offseason.

On October 25th, Maponga was signed to the Dallas Cowboys practice squad and was waived two weeks later in favor of a running back the Cowboys wanted to get into the mix.

With an open spot on Denver’s practice squad, Maponga found one more opportunity.

At the age of 26 and in his fifth year in the NFL, this is a player that is probably close to running out of chances. He has upside, which he put on display at TCU before struggling through his final collegiate season with a foot injury.

Maponga has a good build and long arms, and is a high-effort pass rusher. He will perhaps look to follow a similar career trajectory of Shelby Harris, who has been a major contributor for the Broncos this year after really looking like he was out of chances prior to his arrival in Denver.

Perhaps Maponga can follow in his footsteps and impress the coaching staff over the course of the next 10 months, or perhaps he will yet get called up to the active roster at some point this season.
