After a season of struggling quarterback play, the Denver Broncos are turning to 2016 first round pick Paxton Lynch to be starter against Oakland…

The season began with Trevor Siemian as quarterback leading the Denver Broncos to a 3-1 record, but after a downward spiral, Siemian struggled to maintain consistency. Siemian led the way early, but the progressions and holding the ball too long led to numerous turnovers that would become contagious for the rest of the team.

Brock Osweiler reunited with the Denver Broncos to add insurance at the quarterback position. Osweiler then saw game action the past three weeks. However, Osweiler has had similar issues throwing interceptions like Siemian.

This led to the third change at quarterback: Paxton Lynch.

Lynch was drafted out of Memphis in hopes of becoming the team’s franchise quarterback. Siemian would beat out Lynch twice leading to the infamous “bust” label being thrown around. The Broncos played Lynch in two and a half games in the 2016 season, but he saw his fair share of adversity.

After the firing of Mike McCoy as offensive coordinator, the Broncos turn to Bill Musgrave. Musgrave recently spent time with the Oakland Raiders. He does a better job of adapting to skill players than McCoy did this season. It appeared McCoy lived in the past with Peyton Manning slinging it all over the yard rather than adjusting like he did once upon a time with Tim Tebow.

For Musgrave, this affords the team to do what ex-Raiders OC did with Derek Carr. Musgrave transformed Carr into a bonafide MVP candidate in 2016. He is in a place where he can do the same for Lynch now that the former Memphis Tiger is the starter entering week 12.

As evidenced before, the team must adapt their offense like Cam Newton and Carr. Shut down half the field and limit Lynch to one read. This gives Lynch an opportunity to feel comfortable and make quick decisions.

It is lame analysis to label Lynch a bust. He might be on that track, but lack of playing time affords him the chance to prove the doubters right or wrong. Game action is the only opportunity to determine what is the fate of Paxton Lynch as quarterback of the Denver Broncos. We will know whether Lynch has a potential franchise quarterback label or “bust” label.

We look to the future with Lynch under center. Let’s saddle up and rally around Lynch.
