With the recent firing of Mike McCoy, the Broncos will need an offensive coordinator for the 2018 season. Could former head coach Gary Kubiak fill the void?

The Denver Broncos began the Black Monday firing early this season. One day after the team lost to the Cincinnati Bengals, it appears as if that was enough for Denver to make a change. Although it was a move that I did not expect to happen as early as it did.

Quarterback’s coach Bill Musgrave has been named the interim offensive coordinator for the final six games of the 2017 season. This will be his chance to show what he can do with an offense that has not been doing a whole lot.

When it is time for the Broncos to begin their search for a new offensive coordinator, perhaps one name to look at is Gary Kubiak. The former head coach for the Broncos hinted at the idea of returning to coaching only as an offensive coordinator.

Kubiak was the offensive coordinator during the Denver Broncos back-to-back Super Bowl wins in the late 1990s. While the game has changed dramatically since then, Kubiak would prove to be a solid contributor as offensive coordinator.

In his last season as offensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens, the numbers were pretty solid. His run offense was great and Joe Flacco was a solid player during his time as the Ravens offensive coordinator.

The only thing that could keep Kubiak from becoming the new coordinator is scheme. The Broncos would need a quarterback to fit his scheme. Which means a lot will have to be evaluated before the decision is made.

Bill Musgrave does have a shot at earning the offensive coordinator job. But it would be an interesting offseason if Gary Kubiak is in the mix for the job.
