Quarterback

Baker Mayfield, Oklahoma (Senior)

Simply put, I think Baker Mayfield is the best quarterback in the country right now. He rarely makes a wrong read, and is consistently putting Oklahoma in position to score.

As a matter of fact, with his arm and abilities, I don’t think there’s an area on the field where Oklahoma is not currently a threat to score because of this guy. Mayfield’s accuracy on deep passes is astounding, but it’s the way he so efficiently runs the Oklahoma offense and makes one good decision after another that is so impressive.

This guy looks like he’ll be the real deal at the next level.

Sam Darnold, USC (Sophomore)

It may not be likely that Sam Darnold leaves school early after sort of an up-and-down sophomore season, but this kid still has all the tools to succeed at the position and I could see John Elway seeing a little bit of himself in Darnold.

Darnold is a gunslinger. No play is ever dead to him. He’s gotten himself into trouble more than a time or two because of this mentality, but so did John Elway once upon a time.

If Darnold declares for the draft, the Broncos would probably have to move up to ensure getting him, but as of right now, he’s an option for them.

Will Grier, West Virginia (Junior)

Grier is quickly becoming one of my favorite quarterback prospects in the country.

After getting suspended at Florida in 2015, Grier decided to transfer to West Virginia where he sat out all of 2016, and has suddenly become a touchdown machine in 2017.

He showed in a 6-0 start at Florida back in 2015 that he was a gamer, but what we’ve seen in 2017 from Grier is a rapid ascent to one of the best passers in the country. Yes, West Virginia’s offense caters to quarterbacks in a way, but Grier is executing and making big time throws with his phenomenal arm.

Next: How should the QB position be addressed?

He is a heck of a talent, and if he leaves school early, he’ll get consideration from the Broncos as well.
