According to reports, the Denver Broncos have added linebacker Joe Jones from the Seattle Seahawks practice squad, waiving LB Kevin Snyder…

The Denver Broncos made a couple of roster moves on Tuesday afternoon, signing linebacker Joe Jones away from the Seattle Seahawks’ practice squad, waiving linebacker Kevin Snyder.

Snyder had been with the Broncos’ practice squad this year and in 2016 before joining the active roster recently, getting some of his first regular season NFL action.

The move was reported by multiple Denver sports media outlets, first by Mike Klis:

What are the Broncos getting in Mr. Joseph Jones?

Well, they are certainly getting a very athletic linebacker, there’s no doubt about that. The Seattle Seahawks groom a very specific type, and there’s a reason they brought Jones into the fold even just on the practice squad.

At 6-feet, 231 pounds, Jones ran a 4.50 second 40-yard dash at the Northwestern pro day, and showed off his strength and athleticism with 18 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press and a 35-inch vertical jump.

Jones also showed his short-area quickness with a 6.83 second three-cone drill, and great burst with a 1.63 second 10-yard split.

Those numbers all indicate that there’s no question Jones can hang with NFL athletes physically, but can he prove it translates to the field?

He had his best, most productive season as a senior at Northwestern, where he racked up 48 tackles and 4.5 tackles for loss to go along with a pair of sacks. What he will probably be asked to do in Denver is not only play physical on defense, but show that his speed and athleticism can immediately translate to special teams.

Special teams have been somewhat of a weakness for the Broncos this year, and perhaps this guy can come in and help.

The Broncos have had some success in the past picking linebackers off of other teams’ practice squads. They picked Brandon Marshall up off of Jacksonville’s scrap heap, and they stole Todd Davis away from the New Orleans Saints in the middle of the 2014 season.

For all of the flak John Elway gets for his drafting, there’s no doubt he knows how to assemble an NFL roster using every resource possible. This is another example of that.

Jones spent the 2017 preseason with the Dallas Cowboys, where he received positive overall grades from Pro Football Focus.
