I have crossed enemy territory and chatted with Matt Conner from Arrowhead Addict and asked him some questions on the Denver Broncos vs. Kansas City Chiefs.

The rivalry between the Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs will continue on Monday Night. Both of these teams are at the top of the division. The Chiefs currently hold the lead by a game and a half.

A Denver Broncos win will put them in a good position in the AFC West race. The win will put them at 3-1 in the division. As long as they take care of business outside of the division after this game, everything could fall into place.

But the Kansas City Chiefs are no joking manner. They have quite the dynamic offense. With players like Kareem Hunt, Albert Wilson, and others this is a talented offense. But the defense is suspect. If the Broncos offense can do its job, it should be a good game.

A big divisional game calls for crossing into enemy territory. I have sat down with Matt Conner over at Arrowhead Addict. I wanted to see how the Chiefs looked at this point of the season.

The Chiefs are in the midst of a two game losing streak. What do you believe has been the issue behind the losses?

The first game was a total meltdown by the Chiefs to act just like they did last January when they lost to the Steelers in the exact same way. The offense simply failed to execute. Any signs of aggression were lost. The injuries piled up along the line. Even then, it took an interception to bounce off of the helmet of a Chiefs DB into the hands of Antonio Brown for the Steelers to win.

The following week it was the defense’s fault. Somehow everyone in the NFL can stop Amari Cooper but the Chiefs decide to let him enjoy a career game. Defensive backs were giving away first downs on easy out routes like candy at a parade. Total flip from the previous week, where the defense is a sieve but the offense matches it just as quickly. A lost shootout and crazy officiating.

In the last game (against Oakland), the penalties ended up really giving the Raiders a chance to win. Are penalties becoming an issue for this team?

The Chiefs led the NFL in penalties through the first three weeks of the season (and it wasn’t even close) so even when they were dominating the NFL’s top teams, they were doing so sloppily. if this team could button up such mistakes, they’d win and it wouldn’t be close.

The Chiefs have one of the best offenses in the league, statistically. On the flip side, the defense is the complete opposite. Can you see that being an issue if the Chiefs are involved in a shootout with any team in the league?

Well you saw just that on Thursday night against the Raiders, a back and forth that required Alex Smith to put the team on his shoulders. I think he can do it now more than ever and the Chiefs have the definite weapons to make anyone a believer if they just watch between Kareem Hunt, Travis Kelce and Tyreek Hill.

The Chiefs welcome the Denver Broncos to Arrowhead. What will it take for the Chiefs to end their losing streak and get a big win?

The Chiefs defense isn’t as elite due to the loss of Eric Berry but it’s still a formidable front seven with good to great performers in the secondary. I think the Chiefs have shown the ability to score in numerous ways, so even if the Broncos are clicking on defense, the Chiefs will get their points. Of course, no one is taking the Denver defense for granted. There are so many standout players and Shane Ray is back. Should be a great game.

Which player on Kansas City’s roster have you been more impressed with so far this season?

Kareem Hunt. I mean, who could have predicted the Chiefs would ever lead the NFL in rushing and that it would be the new third round rookie doing it. He has over 1,000 yards from scrimmage already after just seven games, and he’s been limited the last few weeks with the Chiefs missing 3 of their 5 starters along the OL.
