Were it not for some off-field concerns, I don’t know if anyone would be discussing Mayfield in any context other than first round.

With his off-field issues (hopefully) buried in the past, it would not surprise me and probably many others to see the Oklahoma star taken in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

How difficult would this be for the Broncos to do?

Well, you would essentially have to admit defeat on Paxton Lynch, and I don’t know that anyone in the organization is willing to do that at this point, but from my perspective, I’ve seen enough.

At least, I’ve seen enough that I wouldn’t be willing to risk my 2018 season or the future of the organization on Lynch when there are alternatives available.

Mayfield is probably around 6-feet tall, so he’s shorter than the ideal, but he’s a playmaker and one of the best in the country at that.

He reminds me a lot of Russell Wilson in that regard, and has the ability to play from the pocket, on the move, and in the face of pressure.

Mayfield has the sort of competitive edge that you love in a quarterback, and if the Broncos are going to try and keep their defense in-tact, they will need a young player at the quarterback position who is cost-effective.
