The Denver Broncos lost against the New York Giants, and suffered a number of key injuries. Allen Barbre will start at right tackle as a result…

Denver Broncos head coach Vance Joseph said at his Friday press conference that the team would be going with Allen Barbre as its starting right tackle on Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers.

The Broncos have gone through a lot of injuries at the right tackle position of late, namely losing Menelik Watson to a calf injury, Donald Stephenson to a calf injury, and Billy Turner for the whole season to a broken hand.

The injuries have left the Broncos thin up front on the offensive line, and Joseph said the team would likely have to resort to calling up someone from the practice squad. The only tackle on the practice squad currently is Elijah Wilkinson, an undrafted rookie out of Massachusetts.

The Broncos’ new offensive line combination will be Garett Bolles (left tackle), Max Garcia (left guard), Matt Paradis (center), Ron Leary (right guard), and Allen Barbre (right tackle). To be quite frank, that’s probably the best front five combination they have put together all season, at least on paper.

There’s no way Barbre can be worse than what we’ve seen from the likes of Watson, Stephenson, and Turner last week. If he is, it will solidify the fact that the Broncos need to buck up and make a trade for a premiere player at that position.

Barbre was acquired by the Broncos in a trade this offseason, and that trade has worked out pretty well for Denver, giving up a late-round draft pick to the Eagles for someone who can play multiple positions well on the offensive line.

This game won’t be Barbre’s first at right tackle, and hopefully he can do well enough that the team doesn’t have to worry about putting Watson or Stephenson back there when they are healthy.

Barbre’s first task as a starting right tackle will be a tough one, going against the Chargers’ top pass rush duo of Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram.
