The Denver Broncos made a couple of roster moves on Tuesday, releasing veteran defensive lineman Ahtyba Rubin and placing tackle Billy Turner on injured reserve.

The moves were first reported by Mike Klis.

These two moves pave the way for the Broncos to fill a couple of holes offensively, specifically at wide receiver and right tackle.

Rubin was signed after the start of the season, but there were rumors connecting him with the Broncos during the frenzy of activity before final cuts. He was a potential trade candidate, but the Broncos have proven their depth on the defensive line without Rubin, who played 13 snaps with the team before the release.

It’s possible if injuries arise, he could be called upon later on in the season.

Turner came in as a replacement for Menelik Watson, who suffered a calf injury against the New York Giants. Turner played 46 snaps against the Giants, surrendering three quarterback pressures, a sack, and committing a penalty.

He was the lowest graded player offensively for the Broncos in their loss to the Giants.

With all of the different players the Broncos have tried at the right tackle position, it stands to reason that these two roster moves have paved the way for the Broncos to make a move along the offensive line.

Enough is enough.

If John Elway isn’t actively seeking an upgrade for the right tackle position, the Broncos might as well mail in the rest of the season. Trevor Siemian is struggling badly enough as it is, but to have so many incompetent player at right tackle opening doors for pass rushers to get to Siemian on a consistent basis is only making things far worse.

If the Broncos have someone at right tackle that can at least keep the pocket clean, who knows what might happen?

Siemian still needs to hit open receivers, and quit forcing the ball and running into sacks, but if the Broncos can run the ball well and keep their QB clean, they might have some more success offensively as a result.
