As if this season’s story for the New York Giants couldn’t get any worse, CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie has left the team prior to Broncos game…

If there’s a big red ‘abort’ button somewhere for the people in charge of ‘Big Blue’, they need to push it. The New York Giants are an absolute mess, and the news about cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie leaving the team/being suspended is the latest bit of gasoline on top of the dumpster fire.

In addition to losing wide receivers Brandon Marshall and Odell Beckham Jr. to season-ending injuries this past weekend, the Giants will now be without one of their top defensive backs, a former Denver Broncos defensive back whose career was really revived when he signed on to play for the Broncos.

John Elway signed Rodgers-Cromartie to a modest two-year, $10 million deal with the Broncos back in 2013, but he only played with the team one season and signed a big money deal with the Giants.

For the ability he has, and the production we’ve seen from him on the field, his five-year, $35 million contract seems like a bargain.

Unfortunately, the Giants aren’t going to get their money’s worth out of the former Bronco on Sunday Night Football, as he’s apparently decided to leave the team:

Chalk this one up as one of the more bizarre stories we’ve heard this season, just below the wild story involving Miami Dolphins linebacker Lawrence Timmons. At least Rodgers-Cromartie went to his coach and told him in person.

This news comes after the Giants had already demoted Eli Apple at the cornerback position, who voiced his opinions about being a ‘scapegoat’ for the Giants’ woes after said demotion.

You have to wonder if this power play by DRC is a way to get Ben McAdoo, the Giants’ head coach, out of the building. It wouldn’t be a surprise given how things are going for the Giants this season.

In fact, one has to wonder if Giants management is getting fed up with McAdoo, even though some of these things ailing his team are out of his control. The offense wasn’t performing as well as it should have been prior to the injuries this past weekend, and there has been drama in New York all year.

It doesn’t help that the Jets are 3-2, and somehow in contention in the AFC East through more than a quarter of the season. The Giants, at 0-5, historically have no chance of making the postseason.

Their season is essentially over, so could this weekend’s game in Denver be McAdoo’s last as head coach in New York?

We’ll find out.
