Denver Broncos rookie tight end and former All-American at Michigan Jake Butt will return to practice next Monday, per Vance Joseph…
The Denver Broncos used the bye week to relax, have some fun, get away, and get healthy. For rookie tight end Jake Butt, getting healthy has been essentially his job since he was drafted this past Spring.
Since Butt was drafted, the Broncos have had a long-term plan in place for him, one that included at least a six week period at the start of the season where he would have to be on the non-football injury list. We wrote about exactly what that would mean for Butt’s timeline to return to action last week.
As the Broncos returned to work on Monday, head coach Vance Joseph updated everyone on the status of Butt, stating that he will be practicing next Monday:
"“Jake Butt is doing great. He’s going to practice Monday along with Shane Ray. We’re excited about those two guys coming backon Monday to practice.”— Vance Joseph (quotes via Broncos PR)"
With Butt scheduled to practice next Monday, the Broncos will have a 21 day window to activate him to the active roster, put him on injured reserve, or keep him on the NFI list. He won’t count against the 53-man roster number when he returns to the practice field.

This means that one of the steals of the 2017 NFL Draft will be available to play as soon as the Broncos’ week seven matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers, on the road.
This opens up some interesting possibilities with the roster, as the Broncos would have four tight ends available.
Butt will certainly provide Denver with a boost in the passing game, as he became one of the most dangerous receiving threats in the country while at Michigan. He was on pace to become a first or second round pick in the draft prior to his ACL injury in a bowl game in January vs. Florida State.
The Broncos scooped him up in a deep draft at the tight end position, and should get to see him on the field very soon.
