Jamaal Charles

The Denver Broncos are seeing production from their running back Jamaal Charles in the amount of carries given to the veteran. Charles is a prototypical back in a Mike McCoy offense. It is a match made in heaven given McCoy’s capability to play to a player’s strength. Against the Oakland Raiders, Charles might more see opportunities than last week.

Last week versus the Buffalo Bills, the Denver Broncos ran the ball 17 times between CJ Anderson and Jamaal Charles. 17 times. Running the ball at that low rate will not get the job done against any team. However, it still keeps Charles fresh for Oakland. Both Anderson and Charles are already proving to be a reliable duo out of the backfield. Set screens and east/west running will be a key to get Charles going this Sunday. In a perfect world it would be ideal to see the Broncos use Charles in this way.

Rewind to the last game versus the Oakland Raiders, the coaches split Devontae Booker out wide and used him on screen. Even if Gary Kubiak’s staff designed the play, I imagine that play is in there for either Charles or Booker.
