Today, against the Oakland Raiders, the Denver Broncos look to start 2-0 in AFC West play. But in order to achieve it, three players must step up.

In a rivalry game against the Oakland Raiders, the Denver Broncos will look to start the month of October on the right foot. A former Kansas City Chief might be used in packages to split out wide and expose the defense of the Raiders. The secondary of the Raiders is the weakest part of the team. This is in large part could impact how Jamaal Charles is used out of the backfield. Even Isaiah McKenzie might see plays sprinkled in today.

The loss of TJ Ward hurts the team in run defense, but pass defense and the future of Justin Simmons remains very bright. Do not let the struggles against the Buffalo Bills concern you over the long haul as a Denver Broncos fan. Simmons’ football acumen can translate to a better player. He strives to be the best safety and person. Simmons is rangy and is already a top-3 tackler on the team. The pass coverage is close to elite already, but the run defense is still suspect. However, I suspect that to change because of his tackling. Look for Simmons to bounce back against the Raiders.

Emotions will be flying high on Sunday. Players will need to be disciplined in not racking up penalties. Over the Raiders’ history, they have shown the propensity to perform careless penalties time and again. This translates to coaching and the discipline Vance Jospeh wants to establish. Keeping the players in check is a must Sunday. Another is to not overthink a play call.

Here are the people to watch for on Sunday.
