Draft Recap (3 rounds)

  1. Frank Ragnow, C/OL, Arkansas
  2. Martinas Rankin, OT, Mississippi State
  3. Akrum Wadley, RB, Iowa
  4. Devante Davis, LB, Cal

There are a few things to address as we cap off this mock draft.

First, there was no quarterback selected in the first three rounds. I will go into detail as to why I am predicting the Broncos will shy away from that as the season progresses, but the short and simple reason is that they have too many young guys already, and a veteran defense that is ready to win now.

If the Broncos are going to make a move at QB this offseason, I think they will go after a veteran. They would need to bring in someone who is clearly better than Trevor Siemian, who doesn’t have to ‘compete’ for the job, and who immediately offers the best chance to win a title.

Otherwise, what young quarterback is going to come in that is realistic for the Broncos and help them win now? Players like Russell Wilson and Ben Roethlisberger don’t grow on trees.

Another area of note is that I didn’t use a top four selection on a wide receiver. The Broncos may be watching Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders grow older by the year, but those guys are still very much in prime condition and they just used two selections on receivers they believe in for the future, with Isaiah McKenzie and Carlos Henderson.

Factor in that Bennie Fowler has played pretty well this year, and Jordan Taylor has been inactive for all three games, and the Broncos appear to be just fine at receiver, even if Cody Latimer leaves in free agency.

I could see them using a couple day three picks on receivers, taking some shots at guys to see if they stick.

The only other areas I would like to see addressed this offseason with some significant focus are on the interior defensive line. The Broncos have an aging veteran in Domata Peko up front, and while he’s playing very well, there’s really no plan behind him as far as a young player waiting in the wings.

Perhaps the Broncos will look to free agency to solidify that spot again.

What do you think, Broncos Country? How would you spend the top four picks in next year’s draft, even looking this far out?
