A running back? What?

Am I crazy?

The Denver Broncos currently have an enviable stable of running backs, led by C.J. Anderson and Jamaal Charles. Even with the two of them currently under contract, that could very well change by the time the 2018 offseason rolls around.

Anderson has proven himself a valuable player when healthy, but he’s owed $4.5 million against next year’s cap as well as the 2019 cap. The Broncos are the ones who decided to keep him at that price, a contract that was drawn up by the Miami Dolphins.

The Broncos face no dead money penalty if Anderson is released or traded next offseason, and Charles only signed a one-year contract.

That would leave the team with Devontae Booker, De’Angelo Henderson, and practice squad running back Jonathan Williams.

Of course, Denver doesn’t have to release Anderson, but given their recent dealings with T.J. Ward, it doesn’t seem out of the question if they are trying to save some money. Adding Wadley would accomplish that, and would also give the Broncos a big play threat who can offer some similar things that we’ve seen from Jamaal Charles.

This wouldn’t prevent De’Angelo Henderson from getting his shot to contribute, but give the Broncos a deep stable of backs with players that can do a little bit of everything. Wadley is explosive, has excellent vision, and is very hard to track down in the open field.

He’d be a nice back to put with Booker and Henderson going forward.
