Former Denver Broncos linebacker DeMarcus Ware talked about the itch he had to return to football, in particular to the Broncos…

The Denver Broncos suffered some injuries to key pass rushers over the course of the offseason, but even the absence of guys like Shane Ray and Shaquil Barrett for a period of time wasn’t enough for DeMarcus Ware to unretire and return to football.

Did he actually consider that as a possibility?

You’d better believe it.

Ware talked about the itch he had to come back to the field, especially when a need for his services arose in Denver:

"“Oh, I had some second thoughts. When [OLB] Shane [Ray] went down, I had some second thoughts of going out there and playing. I thought to myself that I’m having such a great time, I don’t have to put the pads back on and beat my body up any more. I’ve played enough football and now I can do whatever I can do to support the team.”DeMarcus Ware — Quotes via Denver Broncos PR"

More from Predominantly Orange

Kudos to Ware for sticking with his decision. His body has been through a lot, and while it would have been exciting to see him wearing orange in a game like Sunday’s against the Dallas Cowboys, there’s no denying the grind of an NFL season takes a toll.

Instead of the grueling NFL schedule as a player, Ware is enjoying the perks of retirement in television, not unlike a number of former Dallas Cowboys players and his former teammate Tony Romo, who is working with CBS on their top broadcasting team.

Ware is working now with NFL Network and was very politically correct when asked to pick the game between the Broncos and Cowboys. He thought the game should end in a tie.

The Broncos had Ware as an honorary alumni captain in this game against the Cowboys, and honored him between the first and second quarter on the field as one of the key members of their Super Bowl 50 championship team.
