Punters are people too.

The Broncos’ special teams units played pretty exceptional all throughout this game, save for a missed field goal by Brandon McManus, but Riley Dixon and the punting team were particularly impressive.

Dixon averaged 48 yards per punt with a 49 yard net average.

What?

That doesn’t make any sense, now, does it?

Dixon did a great job of pinning the Chargers back deep on his three punts, putting two inside the 20 and getting enough hang time on the ball that only one punt was actually returned. That return went for a three-yard loss, and Dixon’s net average increased as a result.

The 49 yards of net punting average ranked Dixon third in the NFL through the first week of games.
