The Denver Broncos added Kyle Peko to their practice squad on Monday, shortly after it was announced they signed Tyrique Jarrett…

In a move that probably should have been made a week ago, the Denver Broncos signed defensive tackle Kyle Peko to the practice squad after bringing Tyrique Jarrett up to the 53-man roster.

The move gives the Broncos a full roster of 53 on the active roster and 10 on the practice squad. Like I said before, it’s a move that probably should have been made at the time of final cuts, because Peko hasn’t been healthy enough to practice fully since coming back from his broken foot.

Needing some depth on the defensive line, the Broncos brought Jarrett up to back up Peko’s cousin, Domata, who was acquired this past Spring in free agency.

Were it not for the broken foot, Kyle was on track to become the Broncos’ top backup nose tackle after a strong finish to the 2017 season and some action in the regular season after getting called up from the practice squad.

Without the younger Peko in the lineup, the Broncos’ depth on the defensive line was reduced to Derek Wolfe, Domata Peko, Adam Gotsis, and Shelby Harris.

Reinforcements were badly needed, and the Broncos had to make a move.

Luckily, things worked out for John Elway and company, who get the opportunity now to keep Jarrett on the active roster and let Kyle Peko develop on the practice squad and perhaps get a call-up whenever he is healthy.

It’ll be interesting to see what the Broncos do financially with Peko, who was on a salary of $540,000 on the active roster. The highest paid practice squad player is currently Jonathan Williams, a running back, at $510,000.

Jarrett was on a salary of $161,500 on the practice squad, so he should be given a pretty significant boost in pay.
