The Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Chargers conclude Week 1 of the NFL season, meeting for the 116th time. The Broncos search for a win for Vance Joseph…

Week 1 of the NFL season has nearly concluded but the Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Chargers bring it to a close Monday evening.

These two old AFL rivals meet for the 116th time in the regular season Monday. In these games, the Broncos have a 64-50-1 advantage.

This game is special as it features the return of offensive coordinator Mike McCoy to Denver.

McCoy served as offensive coordinator in Denver from 2009-2012 before going to San Diego. As the Chargers’ head coach, he had a 27-37 (.422) record, resulting in his firing.

The Broncos consistently do well historically in Week 1. Their all-time record in season openers is 37-19-1 (.661). Only the Dallas Cowboys (38-19-1) are better in NFL history in those games.

This game is also a great opportunity for QB Trevor Siemian to show his worth. Last season, Siemian completed 59.5 percent of his passes for 3,401 yards, 18 TD’s/10 INT’s.

With heir apparent Paxton Lynch not mastering the NFL game yet, Siemian is the best the Broncos have to go with at QB.

Additionally, some big news came forth for the Broncos earlier this afternoon.

Jarrett, a 6’2 335-pound defensive tackle, has been promoted in the absence of Zach Kerr and Jared Crick on the defensive line.

His girth and athleticism should serve a stellar Broncos defense well along the front line.

Receiver Demaryius Thomas also returns to lead a stellar receiving corps. Thomas, a 7-year veteran out of Georgia Tech has at least 90 receptions and 1,300 receiving yards in 4 straight seasons.

The only other receivers to do this are Pro Football Hall of Famers Jerry Rice and Marvin Harrison. Therefore, Thomas is in some great company.

The Broncos have won 8 of their last 10 season openers, outscoring their opponents 256-158 (25.6-15.8 points) in those games.

Since the return of president of football operations/general manager John Elway to the Broncos, the team is 71-29 (.710).

This is the most wins a current NFL general manager has in his first 100 games.

With the Broncos facing the NFL’s toughest schedule in 2017 (their 2016 opponents were 147-107-2, [.578]), a win here serves them well.

Our friend from CBS 4 Denver, meteorologist Lauren Whitney, suggests there may be some storms early in the game

With all due respect to her expertise, let us hope the only lightning bolts are those on the Chargers’ helmets.

Broncos head coach Vance Joseph makes his head coaching debut Monday. In Broncos history, new head coaches are 10-1 in their first game at the helm in Denver so history is on his side.

Additionally, Broncos kicker Brandon McManus is much richer Monday as BroncosWire confirms http://broncoswire.usatoday.com/2017/09/11/denver-broncos-news-brandon-mcmanus-new-contract-extension/.

Safety Jamal Carter is on the Broncos’ roster as an undrafted rookie free agent. The former Miami (Fla.) standout is the 13th Broncos’ rookie in the past 14 seasons to make the 53-man roster in Denver.

Thus, the Broncos continue their tradition of excellence in this regard.

Anyway, this is your game thread. If any Chargers fans happen upon us, treat them kindly, the Broncos way. GO BRONCOS!!!
