Trevor Siemian

Trevor Siemian gets a bad reputation, and there are areas he must improve in the 2017 season. Every time I myself doubt Siemian, I am reminded by the throw he made to Bennie Fowler and the scramble against the Chiefs. That play proved he is capable to play in this league; however, he must show more this upcoming season.

It is not solely on him to be better. The offensive line was the biggest issue last season. In free agency and the NFL Draft, the Broncos upgraded their team at guard and left tackle. They even added two electrifying wide receivers. One (Isaiah McKenzie) could be a “Tyreek Hill” weapon in the Broncos offense. It is imperative for Siemian to take that next step in 2017.

Every quarterback shows development, but is it a regression or progression? That remains to be seen.

Siemian performed well in the shotgun in the preseason and McCoy must design plays to get the best players the ball. The quarterback handles the ball the most. In order for Siemian to stave off Paxton Lynch and Brock Osweiler, he must convert third downs. Siemian is a dink and dunk quarterback, so there need to be extra chances taken down field.

If Alex Smith can beat the New England Patriots, the Siemian can too.

Another area of concern and chance for improvement is red zone production. A team cannot win games if they cannot score. This is not entirely on Siemian, but the team has to get a lead in every game to unleash that defense. If they do not, the defense becomes gassed and loses energy late in the fourth quarter. That cannot happen.

Limiting the turnovers for Siemian is another step for him in 2017. Last year, he only recorded one touchdown against the Chargers. Furthermore, Siemian has to show mobility to avoid pressure. He will have an upgraded offensive linen and weapons this season.

For this reason, if Siemian cannot provide a step forward there is another quarterback battle this season and next.
