Denver Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas suffered a groin injury in the preseason, but returned to practice on Wednesday…

The Denver Broncos got some good news on the injury front on Wednesday, as starting wide receiver Demaryius Thomas returned to practice from his groin injury.

Thomas was injured during the preseason, and there was some fear the injury would keep him out a greater length of time.

It seems like in recent years, Thomas has taken nagging injuries into the regular season only to play through them, and struggle at times. Last year, it was a hip injury. The Broncos could ill-afford to lose him for any long period of time, and it appears as though he’s close to full strength again.

The Broncos have solid depth at the wide receiver position, but the talent dropoff from Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders to the next group of players is fairly significant.

Thomas struggled last season with critical drops and really needs a bounce back season in 2017. The Broncos put a ton of faith in Thomas as a team leader and star player for this team, signing him to a massive contract extension in 2015.

The return of Mike McCoy could do wonders for Thomas in terms of his overall production within the scheme. When McCoy implemented his offensive system in 2012, Thomas had his first real breakout season in the NFL, though that also had a little something to do with the fact that Peyton Manning was in the building.

Thomas’ blend of size and speed is a major asset in a quick passing attack, as he can gain yards after the catch in a hurry.

Hopefully this groin injury doesn’t hold Thomas back this season, similar to the hip injury last year. He needs to be healthy and give Trevor Siemian that true number one target on the outside.
