With Paxton Lynch sidelined with a shoulder injury, could that ultimately play a huge decision on what players will and won’t be cut this week?

Just a few short days after losing the starting job to Trevor SIemian, Paxton Lynch suffered a shoulder injury on his first series against the Green Bay Packers. He was unable to return. Lynch suffered a shoulder sprain in the game.

The injury could keep him out for a couple of weeks. This means that Kyle Sloter will start the final preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals. But what happens beyond that game? The plan for Vance Joseph was to only keep two quarterbacks. There is no way the Denver Broncos go into the 2017 regular season with only one healthy quarterback.

Denver could hang on to Kyle Sloter until Paxton Lynch recovers. Doing that in turn leads to the Broncos giving up a roster spot for a position that they could need.

That means one less defensive lineman. Or one less offensive lineman. Anything is possible with the shoulder injury. But it does not make things easy for the coaching staff for the Denver Broncos.

Another option could be to look at quarterbacks released during final cuts. That option is the most likely if they decide to cut Kyle Sloter.

Putting Paxton Lynch on injured reserve with a designation to return could be another option. But the injury is not believed to be serious enough to warrant that designation. At worse, he could miss the first four games of the season.

It will be interesting what the team does when September 2nd rolls around. But this could shape the roster in a big way. For now, the Denver Broncos are rolling with Kyle Sloter as the starter and Jordan Taylor as the emergency quarterback on Thursday.
