4. Dallas Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys lost starting safety Barry Church in free agency this year. They have basically a completely new secondary at this point, and Jeff Heath at the strong safety position may not be helping them sleep well at night.
Nothing against Heath, who was solid in spot duty last year, but I think Ward would be an upgrade here.
The problem with Dallas is, they don’t have anything they’d realistically part with, in all likelihood, that would be of significant interest to the Broncos. The Cowboys lost a number of solid players to free agency, and are really rebuilding in terms of their depth behind the starting unit.
They could offer the Broncos a decent draft pick if there ends up being some competition for Ward’s services, as they’d probably expect to be picking near the bottom of most rounds. That could wind up being a steal for the Broncos, if they were able to sneak a third round pick from the Cowboys here, even a fourth round pick.
