The Denver Broncos defensive line appears headed in the right direction with depth from numerous players and one is making some noise.

Ex-Pittsburgh Panther Tyrique Jarrett is impressing the Denver Broncos coaches enough as a player to consider for the 53-man roster. Jarrett is listed around 335 pounds, but according to people in the organization, he is pushing 350. Jarrett is even garnering a nickname familiar to Broncos country: “Pot Roast Jr.”

“Pot Roast” or Terrance Knighton made himself known for suffocating double teams and was quick off the snap to be force on the defensive line. Jarrett is on the right track. His inconsistencies in college included playing too tall on the defensive line and not applying right pad level with double teams. This seemed to change once he signed with the Broncos as an undrafted free agent.

Chad Jensen from Scout.com used a terrific quote from Brandon Marshall on Tyrique Jarrett and Terrance Knighton two months ago.

"“We’re chomping at the bit right now. We’re definitely looking at that and we’re excited. They brought in a rookie from Pittsburgh. I’m really excited. Todd [Davis] and I call him ‘Pot Roast Jr.’ Hopefully he can live up to that. When Terrance Knighton was in there, I remember one time he told me when we played the Bills, ‘Look man, when you see me in front of you, just go make the play.’ He took up a double team, and sat there for three seconds and I just made the play. I said, ‘That’s what I’m talking about.’ Hopefully he [Jarrett] can do that.” Brandon Marshall (via Scout.com)"

Jarrett displayed tremendous balance for a player as large as he is. It is this “fleet of foot” movement that provides versatility if need be. Jarrett is too big to play defensive end, but his quickness makes for another angle to his game tougher to stop. BSN Denver’s Zac Stevens mentions Jarrett as a potential “nice surprise” for the defensive line.

Furthermore, the Broncos are notorious for adding UDFAs to their 53-man roster. An undrafted free agent making the 53-man roster is not uncommon, and many players who have gone overlooked have had great careers in Denver. CJ Anderson, and Chris Harris Jr. are just a couple to join the team (as an UDFA) and play at a Pro Bowl level. Even Kyle Peko, cousin of Domata Peko, made the team last season as UDFA.

As a result, the Broncos might find themselves with two new faces on the defensive line. Shelby Harris and Tyrique Jarrett are catching the eye of everyone. Not just the coaches. Actually, Harris recovered a fumble against the San Francisco 49ers in the first preseason game.

In conclusion, it is not out of the realm of possibility that we will see two new defensive linemen added to the opening roster. When you watch the Broncos game tonight against the Green Bay Packers, keep Tyrique Jarret in mind. He is a name to watch.
