A.J. DERBY, TE

So far in the preseason, no one has really stepped up for the Broncos at the tight end position. With our most extensive look at the first team offense on Saturday night, we’ll get to see how Mike McCoy plans to use tight end A.J. Derby, currently listed as third on the depth chart.

Just because Derby is listed behind Virgil Green and Jeff Heuerman doesn’t mean he won’t be the Broncos’ top pass catching threat at the position this season. In limited action last year, Derby showed off his skills as a third down threat, and big play option down the middle of the field. Hopefully, he — or someone — can emerge for the Broncos who desperately need that outlet at the tight end spot.

Jake Butt won’t play until at least midseason, so someone is going to have to take this bull by the horns.

Derby is a player I’m very excited to watch.
