Former Denver Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler and tight end Julius Thomas connected for a touchdown in a Miami Dolphins preseason game…

Jay Cutler was once considered the future of the Denver Broncos franchise at the quarterback position. Julius Thomas was once a Pro Bowl tight end in Denver. Adam Gase was once an up-and-coming offensive coordinator for the Broncos.

Now, all three are trying to work together with the Miami Dolphins to make a splash in the AFC East and dethrone the reigning champion New England Patriots.

Cutler was sharp in what will likely be his final preseason work, completing five of his eight passes for over 100 yards and a touchdown.

The touchdown came on a familiarly designed play at the goal line to the tight end Thomas:

Thomas motioned to the left side of the formation on this play, and when the ball hit him he almost looked surprised to see it.

If these two can form a bond in Miami, it will be really interesting for Broncos fans to watch from afar. Cutler was in Denver from 2006-2008 and was traded during the 2009 offseason to the Chicago Bears in a really messy ordeal involving Josh McDaniels.

Thomas left the Broncos in free agency after the 2014 season, when he posted his second straight Pro Bowl campaign.

Thomas struggled with injuries throughout his time in Denver, even in the years when he was playing really well. Now, he’s coming off of two fairly disappointing seasons with the Jaguars, considering the money he signed for and the expectations that come along with that.

Thomas is now 29 years old, and Cutler is 34. It seems like it’s been a lifetime since either of these guys was throwing or catching a touchdown in the Mile High City.

It’ll be very interesting to follow both of them now in Miami, and see what Gase can do with both of them in his offense together.
