We are nearing the start of the 2017 season and Denver Broncos running back Jamaal Charles is close to being unleashed…

Denver Broncos running back beast Jamaal Charles will wait one more week to see game action. On the bright side, Charles is regaining his early, elite form.

Charles sustained multiple injuries in the late portion of his career with the Kansas City Chiefs, leading to a lack of carries recently. However, Charles sees a bit of a rebirth with a new team and has a huge chip on his shoulder.

Head coach Vance Joseph admitted he is the one holding Charles back, but it is better to be safe than sorry. Due to many injuries, it is better to be cautious with a great back like Charles.

Once Charles is ready to be unleashed the Broncos running back unit becomes very dangerous. There is talk Charles might not be on the roster and that could happen; however, in my opinion, I do not see it happening. The Broncos would not add a player of his ilk (talented or not) to the roster if they knew he had no gas left in the tank.

In late July, Charles was comfortable in the process with the coaching staff. Here is what he said to The Denver Post.

"“Right now, I’m happy with the system. They’re taking their time with me and I told them I want to do a little bit ‘thud’ (when players, wearing helmets and shoulder pads, hit but stay on their feet) and get hit. I want that, just to get my confidence up and see how my knee feels in pads and make people miss. Whatever they tell me to do, I’m just doing it day by day.”Denver Post"

During the joint practice with the 49ers, the coaches took the brace off the knee of Charles. This is a great sign for a player who is ready to go.

The plan all along has been for Charles to play against the Packers in preseason game number three. If he plays exceptionally well, then the need to play him in the last game may not happen.

He is starting to cut better with the knee, but it needs to be on a regular basis for the coaches to raise the amount of playing time. Yet, there is a buzz starting about how Charles is looking these past few days. Just another sign of him moving in the right direction.

Charles fits the Mike McCoy offensive attack very well. No NFL running back averages more yards per attempt than Charles in NFL history. His 5.5 yards per attempt is better than the great Jim Brown, Gale Sayers and Barry Sanders.

The best fit for Charles and the McCoy marriage is use in the open field as a receiver. Splitting Charles out wide creates a mismatch for linebackers covering him. Once the knee is healthy, there is no player that reaches the second level and makes people miss better than Charles.

The Broncos must unleash their new running back soon. We’ll just have to wait one more week until the Broncos take on the Green Bay Packers.
